Boeuf Bourguignon Recipe

A version of the classic French Beef dish!!

  • 500g stewing beef cut into 2cm cubes

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons of flour

  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed

  • 12 shallots or pickling onions, peeled and left whole

  • 3 cloves of garlic, peeled and left whole

  • 1 beef stock cube, crumbled

  • cup of hot water

  • 1 cup of red wine

  • 1 bouquet garni

  • 150g button mushrooms, wiped and left whole

  • Freshly ground black pepper

Place the pepper and flour into a food or freezer bag, add the meat and shake well to coat.

Remove the meat from the bag, heat the oil in a pan and brown the meat.

Dissolve the stock cube in the hot water and place in the crockpot with all other ingredients except the meat.

Combine thoroughly, and add the meat. Ensure that the meat is covered with the liquid in the crockpot.

Cover and cook on LOW for 9-11 hours or until the meat is tender.

If you wish you can remove the garlic cloves form the Boeuf Bourguignon `before serving, but they will be soft enough to eat and do have a wonderful flavour if you leave them in.
