Why use a crockpot/slow cooker?
A crockpot is one the most versatile pieces of cookware you could own.
Think of some of the days when you have arrived home at night, tired and exhausted after the days events, and immediately have had to busy yourself in the kitchen with preparing and cooking supper.
What better then, that to arrive home knowing that supper is waiting for you, hot, ready and waiting to be served.
How does a crockpot/slow cooker work?
Your crockpot heats up very slowly and remains at a low temperature. Your crockpot may come with 2 or 3 settings LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH, depending what you are cooking. All recipes will tell you which setting to use.
In most cases all of your ingredients are added to your Crockpot at the same time, say for example in the morning before you head off for work and then they slowly simmer away all day.
By the time you have arrived home, popped some potatoes on to boil or steamed some couscous, your crockpot meal will be ready to serve.
Meat recipes cooked in a crockpot are always tender and delicious, having cooked slowly in its own juices.
All of the goodness and nutrition of your food will still be there when you eat.

Most people are under the misconception that the only recipes that will work in a crockpot are recipes for stews and recipes for casseroles. Absolutely not!! Jacket potatoes, vegetables, soups and even loaves of bread can all effortlessly be cooked in your crockpot.
I have included recipes for all of these and many others.
How long does it take for food to cook in a crockpot/slow cooker?

Where can you buy a crockpot/slow cooker?
Most
of your appliance stores, large supermarkets and kitchen stores will supply
crockpots.
There is usually more than one size available and they are measured in litres or pints, so you can decide what kind of volumes you will be cooking and buy the crockpot to suit the size of your family.
Don’t forget though, that another benefit of your crockpot is that you can cook enough for more than one meal and pop it in the freezer for another day, so don’t go too small!!
